CITIZENS FOR SAFE PIPELINES
PO Box 124
Placitas, NM 87043
Citizens for Safe Pipelines is organized exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes as defined under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The purposes of CPS shall include all actions to protect the environment, property and public safety from releases from hazardous liquid and natural gas pipelines through education, technical assistance, litigation and advocacy.
The board of Citizens for Safe Pipelines is:Bert Miller, President (505-771-8358)
Las Placitas Association is keenly aware of the importance of pipeline safety because five pipelines cross the Placitas Open Space carrying carbon dioxide, natural gas liquids (2), refined products, and crude oil (out of service, proposed to be converted to refined products). In fact, in the last four years, there have been three serious incidents near our area on these pipelines, an incidence that is higher than would be expected based on national pipeline safety statistics.
Las Placitas Association has made this space available to Citizens for Safe Pipelines in order to inform and educate people about pipelines in general and the pipeline projects that are proposed that will impact our area.
One of the most common causes of pipeline accidents (although not the cause of the recent accidents in our area) is someone who operates heavy machinery and fails to notify the "One Call" system. "Call Before You Dig" is not just a good idea - it's the law and can save your life or prevent a tragic accident. Information about New Mexico One Call can be found at http://www.nmonecall.org/.
We hope you find this information helpful.
